In 2010 Cherbourg-Octeville was awarded the ‘Age Well-Live Together’ label by the Minister for Work and Health, in recognition of the policies it has put in place in support of the elderly, which include: a public nursing home with a modest pricing structure, home-help, meals-on-wheels, a programme of entertainment and outings, holidays for the less well-off, a policy of accessibility to cultural events, the creation of a forum entitled ‘ageing and blossoming’ and enhanced support for clubs aimed specifically at the elderly.
