A preserved natural heritage

Two hundred and fifty acres of green spaces, parks among which two are labelled remarkable gardens, natural areas, 22 000 trees among which over 1 000 palm trees, 70 000 bushes : the city of Cherbourg possesses a remarkable natural heritage.
The presence of the Gulf Stream and an oceanic climate favours exotic plants and the creativity of sailor-gardeners.
Willing to preserve this wealth, the city started supporting environmentally friendly projects to favour biodiversity : perennial flowers, water recycling, no pesticides, mulching…
In order to reward the city for its step in favour of the environment, the national jury of flowered cities gave Cherbourg the highly prestigious “Quatre Fleurs” label in 2007 and renewed it in 2010.
Every two years, in May, the Presqu’île en fleurs event brings around 25 000 people to the Ravalet castle.
