Natural spaces in the heart of the city

Natural spaces are spread out in the city, favoring great outdoor walks. The Vallon sauvage, a part of the Ravalet castle park, the Roquettes and the Bucaille valleys (near the university, rue Max-Pol Fouchet), the Fauconnière park  and the Maupas wood (rue Fernand Thomine) represent 70 hectares dedicated to relaxing.
The town gardeners maintain these sites with natural techniques, in order to preserve and enrich the fauna and flora.
In the heart of the city, 10 hectares of nature, half wild, half layed out allow the walker to forget instantaneously the noise of the city. Follow the whisper of a river, the bird’s song, discover the flora and the trees of the Cotentin, try to recognize the inhabitants of ponds.
The natural spaces are looked after in dialogue with the members of the Science library in charge of the listing of the the fauna, flora and mushrooms of Cherbourg.

Natural space of the Fauconnière : located on the Cherbourg heights, on the place of a former vineyard, its panoramic view points are turned towards the Quincampoix valley. Located near the water castle (rue d’Alsace), this natural space is to be rediscovered.
