City opened to international exchanges, Cherbourg has chosen to develop twinnings with two harbours in Germany and England : Bremerhaven and Poole. Education, economy, tourism, culture, associations or sports, these partnerships apply to all sorts of domain.
In 2010, the twinning between Bremerhaven, German port in the Norther Sea, and Cherbourg celebrated its 50th anniversary. An occasion to underline the strong links that unite these two cities.
Fifty years of association partnership, of economical and cultural exchanges have woven a strong friendship between the two cities. Many projects come to life, carried by associations, the city council, local structures or educational institutions.
Since 1977, the cities of Cherbourg and Poole yield a profit out of their twinning. Meetings between economic leaders, university exchanges, common strategies to develop tourism: the projects developed by the two cities abound.
In 2011, after sports, economy and university, thematic exchanges will focus on developing partnerships between cultural actors.
These exchanges, very precise and for a three year period, complete the twinning’s comitee action on exchanges between schools and inhabitants.
