With 18,000 licensed sports club members, around a hundred different sports clubs and more that twenty sports facilities run and maintained by the local council, Cherbourg-Octeville could be described as one of the sportiest towns in the region.

Young people in particular are encouraged to try out new sports, and to take part in a vast range of seasonal sports activities through a number of subsidy initiatives.
