The painter Georges Clairin decorated the ceiling. In the lobby, he designed allegorical representations of comedy, drama, music and dance, and, finally, painted two large works "The Sea Wall" and "The Countryside" that decorate the main staircase.
The ceiling painting in the lobby depicting the four seasons was done by Jules Richomme (1818-1903).
In addition, one of the most beautiful rooms, the lobby, was decorated by both Georges Clairin and Jules Richomme.
The caryatids bearing the outer balcony are the work of the Cherbourg sculptor Louis Alexandre Lefèvre.
Originally designed to seat one thousand one hundred people, the theatre now has, due to current security standards, six hundred seats.
Listed as a historical monument since December 1984, it features on guided tours of the town.
Since early 1991, the Cherbourg Theatre has the status of National Stage.
