Cherbourg-Octeville,
the sea in the heart of the town

Cherbourg-Octeville has a privileged geographical location at the end of the peninsula of the Cotentin, right in the middle of the Channel.

Vauban was the first one to realize the strategic importance of the town and contributed to its maritime fate.

Being a fishing port, a commercial harbour, a naval base, Cherbourg rapidly became a transatlantic call.

Today, Cherbourg is a marina an international level, which welcomes the greatest boat events (Course du Figaro, Challenge Mondial Assistance, Cutty Sark...).

It is also town of art with its Italian-style theatre, art galleries, history museum, churches (basilica Sainte-Trinité, Saint-Martin Church...), the Ravalet castle and La Cité de la Mer.

This sailors' town offers a variety of restaurants, cafés, bars, shops, a flamboyant market and wonderful parks wehere you can relax : Emmanuel Liais Park, the public garden or even the garden Montebello, the wild small valley, the park of the castle in Tourlaville...
