The welcome hall

The Northern area's primary vocation is to welcome all those who wish to visit La Cité de la Mer or just simply wish to come and relax in a space that is unique in the world.

Visitors have access to this space free of charge by entering via one of the great glass doors on the western side.

Once inside, they will be amazed by the majesty and the size of the place. Facing them, they will be astounded by the sheer mass of the Bathyscaph Archimède.

The cannon from the CSS Alabama

The pivoting Blakely canon from the wreck of the CSS Alabama (a confederate vessel sunk during the American Civil War) was raised in 1994.

You will discover in exclusivity this witness of one of the great naval battles of Cherbourg's history.
