The Church of Notre-Dame-du-Voeu In the course of the 19th century, Cherbourg's increased importance was reflected in growth in population. Holy Trinity was no longer large enough to hold the faithful. The construction of a new church was therefore planned.
In October 1850, a temporary chapel was inaugurated on the site of the future building.
Building lasted fourteen years. The church was designed in a Neo-Romanesque style by the architect Geoffroy.
The facade and the bell towers were completed in 1864.
With its 61.5 metres, Notre-Dame-du-Voeu is one of the largest churches in the diocese.
In 1884, it was fitted with a full organ that, since being listed in 1990, has now been completely restored.
