Jacques Prévert (1900-1977)
On the advice of his friend, the renowned film set designer, Alexandre Trauner, Jacques Prévert abandoned his home in Antibes to move to the Cotentin in 1971.
Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Jacques Prévert died on April 11, 1977, in Omonville la Petite. The village cemetery contains the rose-covered graves of the poet, his daughter and of Janine, his wife, who died in March 1993.
As evidence of his continuing presence in his adopted home, a Prévert garden has been created in La Hague.
It is open to the public, with flowers in every season. Visitors can listen to the birds...or draw them.
The Departmental Council bought the Prévert family home in May 1994 in order to turn it into a museum in memory of the poet.
